Time’s fun when you’re having flies

April 11, 2007

Ok, so I’m not evolving into a “post every day” type of girl. Didn’t really think I would. I think about posting, but then life interveens. Oh well…

We have been pretty busy here at Majora Acres. One of my best ewes finally succeeded at dying (took her three weeks to find a time when I wasn’t around in time to save her from herself). Two of the angora does finally kidded, but none of the kids (5 in all, 4 of them doelings) survived. I think there may be genetic issues with the buck I’m using, since this is the 3rd breeding that has resulted in no kids (this is the first year I’ve used him). All of the does have kidded successfully in the past, so right now I’m inclined to blame him. Too bad. He has a wonderful fleece and a great disposition; I would have liked to pass those along.

Last Saturday of March was Fiber Market Day. If you are in Central Oregon next year it is a fun time. We are talking about making some changes (going to 2 full days instead of just Saturday?), so I’ll keep you posted on that as things firm up. We had about 30 vendors in the building with a variety of goods, and the crowd was very busy.  We have definately grown in the 10 years that we have been doing this, but I think it’s time we pushed the envelope a bit more. It would be nice to have the time to do actual classes instead of the demos we do now.

Off the farm has been busy too. Last weekend Kid the Younger and I went up to Seattle for SakuraCon (an anime convention for those that don’t know). This was her third year going. We stayed at the Sheraton across the street from the Convention Center, which was nice. She went as Larsa from Final Fantasy 12, and had her picture taken more than in the last 2 years combined. It is always a fun place to people watch. Some of the costumes are fantastic. Her costume wasn’t complete, but close enough to be recognizable. She made a great pendant out of Fimo for the front of the costume, which I want to mount in a frame to hang in her room (that will keep it safe for next year!) Her picture was taken by the official photographer, so once the pictures get posted to the SakuraCon web site you can see her (she’s the only Larsa this year)

The other big news is that I will be going back to work starting the 23rd. My back is better (mostly), and the budget could definately use an infusion of cash. Still, I’ll miss having the time at home. Not that I’ve gotten much done over the last year, since my body has been so useless. Hopefully it will all work out. This is something I haven’t done before, so there will be a learning curve to contend with too, in addition to getting used to the new schedule. Oh, if only I could win the lottery. Suppose I ought to buy a ticket once in a while…
